Travel Information


Glasgow International Airport is the largest airport in Scotland and it is situated around 8 miles west of the city. There are a number of European destinations that you can get direct flight to or from including Paris, Amsterdam and Geneva. There are also multiple domestic routes including flights to all four of London’s airports and to Manchester and Birmingham. There are only a small selection of direct flight to the United States with Orlando, New Jersey and Philadelphia available.

Train Station

There are two main train stations in Glasgow and they are both in the city centre only a round a 15 minute walk apart, these are Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central. There are direct services along the west and east coasts of Scotland with daily trains to Edinburgh, Fort William and to Euston Station in London. Tickets can be bought at the stations but it is much cheaper to book in advance, try the Scotrail website for times and prices and online booking.

Bus Service

The main bus station in Glasgow is Buchanan Street Station and there are a number of bus companies which operate in the city. These include First Group, Stagecoach and CityLink and as well as an efficient city wide service there are also direct routes to other major cities and towns in Scotland. If you are planning to use the bus to explore Glasgow then it can be cheaper to buy one of the various passes available which can offer unlimited bus travel for the day or multiple days. The cheapest intercity travel by bus is provided by Megabus which offers routes to London, Edinburgh and Inverness from as little as £3.50 one way.


Glasgow has the only underground system in Scotland at it is very efficient for getting around the city, the underground runs from 6.30am till 10pm Monday – Saturday and 11am to 5.30pm on a Sunday. There are a total of 15 stations throughout the city and tickets can be bought at the stations. You can obtain a ticket for a single journey or get passes which give unlimited travel for a day or multiple days.


Glasgow is the biggest shopping destination in Scotland and is only behind London for being the biggest in the United Kingdom. There is a wide range of indoor shopping centre and top brand high street stores situated throughout the city. The main shopping region is the pedestrianised area of Sauchiehall Street, Argyle Street and Buchanan Street. Along this area you will find a range of the top High Street brand stores such as HMV and WH Smith.

There are also some excellent indoor shopping areas, arguably the best is Buchanan Galleries with over 80 stores and an excellent city centre location next to Buchanan Street Station. Another popular indoor shopping centre is the St Enoch centre which is the largest shopping centre in Scotland. It is family friendly and has a range of top stores including Debenhams, GAP and the largest food court in Scotland.

If you are looking for a true Glaswegian shopping experience and are looking for a bargain then try the Barras market which is a selection of open market stalls selling a variety of goods. It also has a reputation for selling counterfeit goods but it is a unique shopping experience.
